COURSE CURRICULUM

This Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing programme provides students with a comprehensive combination of technical expertise, practical experience, and professional skills required for careers in modern technology industries. The course introduces Agile Development methodologies, enabling students to gain experience in managing software projects using industry-standard approaches such as SCRUM while developing skills in project planning, teamwork, scheduling, documentation, and the delivery of software solutions in dynamic environments. Students study Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Applications, exploring the use of AI and data science technologies in areas including chatbots, virtual assistants, medical diagnosis, fraud detection, biometric recognition, personalised services, and autonomous systems while critically evaluating the ethical, legal, and social implications associated with these technologies. The Big Data and Business Intelligence module develops expertise in designing and implementing databases, analytics systems, and large-scale data applications to support organisational decision-making, covering topics such as data warehouses, data integration, big data technologies, data management, and advanced visualisation techniques. Through Machine Learning, students gain knowledge of predictive modelling, probability theory, statistical analysis, learning algorithms, and inference methods that enable intelligent systems to learn from data and adapt to changing conditions. Software for Digital Innovation provides a strong foundation in Python programming, software development principles, and the use of programming libraries and tools to create practical solutions for real-world problems. A significant component of the programme is the Computing Masters Project, where students undertake an individual research or industry-focused investigation and produce a substantial deliverable such as software, systems, tools, or research findings. Students present and evaluate their work through demonstrations, reports, and presentations while developing project management and critical analysis skills. By combining artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, software development, and agile methodologies, the programme prepares graduates for careers in AI, data analytics, software engineering, cloud technologies, and advanced computing industries.
