COURSE CURRICULUM

This MSc Aerospace Engineering course provides advanced technical knowledge and practical experience through a range of specialist modules designed to prepare graduates for careers in the aerospace and space industries. The Advanced Aerospace Structures module focuses on aircraft structural analysis, including torsion, shear flow, beam loading and semi-monocoque aircraft structures, helping students develop the ability to interpret finite element analysis results accurately. Advanced Fluid Dynamics explores computational fluid dynamics (CFD), multiphase flow, thermodynamics, subsonic and supersonic aerodynamics, shock waves, nozzles and diffusers, giving students expertise in analysing airflow around aircraft and aerospace systems. The Engineering Research Project enables students to undertake independent research addressing real-world sustainability or clean energy challenges while developing research, analytical and problem-solving skills. The Finite Element Methods module provides practical experience using commercial engineering software to solve design and manufacturing problems through simulation and analysis. Space Mission Analysis and Trajectory Design introduces orbital mechanics, mission planning, orbit transfers, gravity assist manoeuvres, interplanetary travel and missions involving Lagrange points, preparing students for opportunities within the space sector. Supply Chain Management develops understanding of manufacturing performance, quality management techniques such as Six Sigma and Total Quality Management (TQM), and supply chain optimisation to improve organisational efficiency and competitiveness. The Sustainability module examines environmental impact assessment, systems thinking, climate change mitigation and sustainable engineering policies, ensuring graduates understand the importance of responsible engineering practices. Overall, the programme combines aerospace engineering theory with practical applications and industry-standard technologies, preparing graduates for roles such as aerospace engineer, structural analyst, CFD engineer, space systems engineer, mission analyst, manufacturing engineer or research engineer in aviation, defence and space industries.
