COURSE CURRICULUM
The Clinical Research programme is designed to develop advanced research knowledge and practical skills required for conducting high-quality research within healthcare and clinical environments. Students gain expertise in a wide range of quantitative and qualitative research methods, statistical analysis techniques, and research governance processes that support evidence-based practice and healthcare innovation. The Advanced Clinical Research Designs and Analysis module develops understanding of complex research methodologies, including meta-analysis techniques and the interpretation of statistical findings used to evaluate clinical interventions and healthcare outcomes. Through the Data Management in Clinical Research module, students acquire practical skills in managing and analysing clinical and medical datasets, progressing from fundamental statistical methods to more advanced multivariate analysis techniques. The Developing Research Projects module prepares students to design and undertake primary and secondary research studies, audits, and evaluation projects while developing knowledge of research governance, ethical considerations, and procedures for obtaining ethical approval. The Dissertation and Research Article module allows students to apply the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course by undertaking an independent research project and producing work of a publishable standard, enhancing both employability and academic development. Introduction to Research, Ethics and Governance provides a strong foundation in ethical clinical research, evidence-based practice, clinical governance, and essential analytical techniques while promoting interdisciplinary learning and collaboration with students from different professional backgrounds. The Research Methods and Analysis of Qualitative Clinical Research module develops expertise in analysing and presenting qualitative data while exploring patient experiences and the role of qualitative research within clinical and social care settings. Students also examine the importance of patient and public involvement in research design, implementation, and dissemination. Graduates are well prepared for careers in clinical research, healthcare leadership, public health, academia, and doctoral study, with the advanced research skills required to contribute to improvements in healthcare practice and policy.
