COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Public Health (MPH) programme provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required to address modern public health challenges at local, national and international levels. The course develops expertise in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods, enabling students to interpret health data, evaluate evidence and support informed decision-making in public health practice. Students learn to design and manage research, audit and evaluation projects while gaining an understanding of research governance and ethics in preparation for their dissertation. The dissertation allows students to investigate a public health issue of personal or professional interest using methodologies such as quantitative research, qualitative research or systematic reviews. A strong emphasis is placed on epidemiology, where students study disease patterns, health determinants, study designs, bias, validity and the use of health data to improve health services and policies. The International Public Health module explores global health challenges, health inequalities, environmental health, health economics, disease prevention and international public health systems, preparing students to work in diverse healthcare environments. Leadership and Management in Public Health develops skills in strategic leadership, ethical decision-making, resource allocation, organisational culture and evaluation of public health interventions, supporting students who aspire to leadership roles within health and social care sectors. The Public Health in Context module provides a broad understanding of public health principles, policy development and the factors that influence population health outcomes. Graduates develop strong research, analytical, leadership and policy skills and are prepared for careers in public health organisations, healthcare systems, government agencies, charities, international organisations and community health services worldwide.
