COURSE CURRICULUM

This LLM Law programme is designed to develop advanced knowledge and understanding of fundamental legal principles, contemporary legal issues, and the practical application of law in domestic and global contexts. The course enables students to critically analyse current legal debates, explore the relationship between law, rights, and society, and develop advanced research skills required for postgraduate study and professional careers. Through innovative teaching methods and authentic assessments, students strengthen their ability to evaluate complex legal problems and communicate effective legal arguments. The Advanced Issues in Law (Domestic and Global) module examines emerging legal challenges and debates, allowing students to explore specialist areas of interest and develop independent perspectives. The Law, Rights and Society module provides a deeper understanding of legal reasoning, the social role of law, and the importance of human rights within modern society. Students also develop strong academic and professional research abilities through the Legal Research for Postgraduate Writing module, which focuses on research methodologies, critical analysis, and effective legal communication. The LLM Dissertation allows students to apply their knowledge and research skills to a specific legal area, producing an extended independent research project. Students can also choose an optional module such as Human Rights in Criminal Law and Criminal Evidence, Investigation of Organised Crime, Law Clinic, or Reimagining Sustainable Management in Global Markets. The course provides opportunities for practical experience through Applied/Advanced Practice in Social Sciences, Humanities and Law, where students undertake work-related projects supported by the course team. This helps bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice by developing problem-solving, research, communication, and workplace skills. With experienced research-active academics, strong links with legal professionals, and opportunities for placements and employment development, the programme prepares graduates for careers in legal practice, policy, research, government, and related professional fields.
