COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM Law programme provides students with advanced knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary legal issues, legal reasoning, human rights and specialised areas of legal practice. The course is designed to develop strong research abilities, analytical thinking and independent learning skills required for postgraduate legal study and professional careers. Through the Advanced Issues in Law (Domestic and Global) module, students explore current legal debates and complex challenges affecting domestic and international legal systems. This enables them to evaluate emerging legal issues, develop informed opinions and identify areas of interest for further research. The Law, Rights and Society module develops a deeper understanding of the relationship between law, legal reasoning and society. Students critically examine how legal principles influence social structures and explore the significant role of human rights within a socio-legal context. The Legal Research for Postgraduate Writing module enhances students’ ability to conduct advanced legal research, evaluate legal sources, construct persuasive arguments and communicate complex legal ideas effectively at postgraduate level. The programme culminates in the LLM Dissertation, where students apply their legal knowledge and research skills to an independent research project focused on a specific area of expertise. Students can also choose from a range of optional modules to specialise according to their interests and career goals. Options include Human Rights in Criminal Law and Criminal Evidence, which examines the relationship between criminal justice and fundamental rights; Investigation of Organised Crime, which explores international approaches to tackling organised crime and police investigative practices; and Law Clinic, which provides practical experience through supervised pro bono legal advice and live client cases. Students may also study Reimagining Sustainable Management in Global Markets, exploring responsible leadership, sustainability, international trade and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By combining academic research, practical experience and specialist knowledge, this programme prepares graduates for careers in legal practice, human rights, criminal justice, policy, consultancy, research and other professional sectors requiring advanced legal expertise.
