COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Design with Advanced Practice programme provides students with advanced creative, technical, and professional skills required to design innovative and sustainable interior environments that respond to contemporary social and environmental challenges. The Design in Context: Building for People and Society module introduces students to the social, cultural, and economic influences shaping modern design and the built environment, exploring themes such as home, community, wellbeing, work, and place while examining the impact of demographics, policy changes, sustainability, and technological developments on spatial design. Emerging Spatial Trends: Wellbeing and Sustainability develops an understanding of how interior environments affect physical and mental health, encouraging students to explore biophilic design, sustainable materials, and environmental wellness as important aspects of contemporary interior practice. The Final Design Project allows students to lead and manage a large-scale and innovative design project that demonstrates advanced research, creativity, and problem-solving skills while addressing complex spatial and real-world challenges through original design solutions. Future Technologies introduces emerging digital tools, software, and professional practices used within interior and architectural design, including building information modelling and collaborative design technologies that improve sustainability and building performance from the earliest stages of development. Interior Practice: Managing Design focuses on the broader responsibilities of interior designers, including project management, contracts, specifications, regulations, health and safety requirements, and professional collaboration within the construction and design industries. The Advanced Practice module further enhances employability by providing opportunities to apply existing knowledge and experience to real-world business and professional challenges while developing critical thinking, reflective practice, and advanced professional skills. Together, these modules equip graduates with the creativity, technical expertise, research abilities, and leadership qualities needed for careers in interior design, spatial design, consultancy, project management, and other areas of the built environment and creative industries, while preparing them to respond effectively to future industry developments and opportunities.
