COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Human Resource Management (with Advanced Practice) at Teesside University combines advanced academic study with practical workplace experience to prepare students for successful careers in human resources and people management. A key feature of the programme is the Advanced Practice module, which provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in professional environments through research projects, employer-led activities or internships with external organisations. Completed over one semester, this practical experience enhances employability, develops professional skills and allows students to gain valuable industry exposure aligned with their career goals. Academic study includes a Dissertation in Human Resource Management where students conduct an applied research project focused on improving organisational performance through effective people management strategies and evidence-based recommendations. The Human Resource Planning module develops expertise in workforce planning, recruitment, retention and employee release strategies to support organisational competitiveness. Leadership and Business Performance explores performance management systems and the strategic role of HR professionals in improving organisational effectiveness. Leadership and Management Development examines leadership theories and approaches to organisational change across public, private, national and international settings. The Learning and Development module focuses on designing, delivering and evaluating employee training and development programmes to enhance workforce capability. Postgraduate Business Research Methods equips students with knowledge of research design, ethics, data collection and analysis techniques required for professional and academic research. Resilient HRM in Context explores contemporary human resource challenges and prepares students to become adaptable and forward-thinking practitioners capable of responding to changing workforce trends and business environments. The programme also supports progression towards professional recognition through the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Graduates are prepared for careers in human resource management, talent acquisition, employee relations, organisational development, learning and development and HR consultancy across a wide range of sectors.
