COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Art with Advanced Practice programme offers an intensive and research-led learning experience designed to develop students as innovative artists, creative thinkers, and future leaders within the contemporary art world. The Advanced Practice module enables students to build on their existing knowledge and experience while addressing real-world challenges through reflection, critical thinking, and practical action, helping them strengthen their professional skills and career readiness. Art and Studio Development encourages students to explore contemporary artistic practice through creative research, experimentation, and studio-based learning while considering the social, environmental, and material impact of their work. Students develop a distinctive artistic voice through independent projects, reflective writing, and advanced practical techniques that support their creative ambitions. The Enquiry and Process module strengthens critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and research capabilities through engagement with contemporary art theories, themes, and debates. Regular peer reviews, group critiques, and feedback from tutors, artists, and curators help students refine their practice and clarify the motivations behind their work. The Masters Project provides an opportunity for a substantial independent investigation aligned with personal interests and career goals, allowing students to create exhibitions, publications, artefacts, campaigns, and digital works that demonstrate their creativity and professional vision. Sustainability and Practice focuses on helping students establish sustainable careers while exploring ecological responsibility, climate issues, and the broader social impact of artistic practice. Students develop digital portfolios and professional strategies that support future opportunities in research, education, commerce, and public engagement. The Connected Practitioner module develops creative research skills and interdisciplinary collaboration through seminars, lectures, studio activities, and discussions surrounding contemporary issues in the arts and creative industries. Together, these modules equip graduates with the artistic expertise, research skills, critical awareness, and professional confidence required for successful careers as artists, curators, educators, researchers, and creative practitioners in an evolving global cultural landscape.
