COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Education programme provides advanced knowledge of educational theory, professional practice and research methods to support career progression within the education sector. The Combining Professional and Academic Practice module explores the concept of professionalism in education and encourages you to investigate educational issues relevant to your own interests or workplace by applying contemporary theories and research to improve practice and outcomes. Through the Contextualising Education module, you examine current educational debates and policies while exploring how local, national and international developments influence educational systems, teaching approaches and learning experiences. The Educational Research: Practice and Planning module develops your understanding of educational research methodologies and equips you with the skills required to design and undertake an independent research study for your dissertation, including research design, data collection and ethical considerations. The Using the Literature to Inform Educational Research module strengthens your ability to conduct literature searches, critically evaluate academic research, identify gaps in existing knowledge and develop a strong evidence base for your own research project. The MA Education Dissertation is the final and most significant component of the programme, allowing you to work closely with an academic supervisor to complete an independent research project in an area of professional educational practice that aligns with your interests and career goals. Throughout the course, you develop advanced skills in critical thinking, research, communication and reflective practice, preparing you for careers in teaching, educational leadership, training, policy development, educational support services, academic research and further doctoral study in education and related disciplines.
