COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Education with Applied Practice programme combines advanced educational study with practical professional experience to develop your knowledge, research capability and employability within the education sector. The Applied Practice module takes place over one semester and provides valuable real-world experience within a professional setting, allowing you to apply your academic learning in practice while developing workplace skills and enhancing your career prospects. Through the Combining Professional and Academic Practice module, you explore the role of professionalism in education and investigate educational issues relevant to your own interests or career goals by applying contemporary educational theories and research to improve practice. The Contextualising Education module examines current educational debates, policies and systems while exploring how local, national and international developments shape educational practice and decision making. Educational Research: Practice and Planning develops advanced research knowledge and prepares you to design and undertake an independent research study by exploring research methodologies, data collection methods and ethical considerations in educational research. The Using the Literature to Inform Educational Research module strengthens your ability to conduct literature reviews, analyse academic research critically and identify areas where further investigation is needed. The MA Education Dissertation represents the culmination of the programme, enabling you to work with an academic supervisor to complete an independent research project focused on an area of professional educational practice. Graduates develop strong research, analytical, communication and leadership skills, preparing them for career progression in teaching, educational leadership, training, policy development, educational support services, academic research and doctoral study.
