COURSE CURRICULUM
The Digital Media and Communications master's programme at Teesside University combines creativity, research and industry engagement to prepare students for careers in the evolving digital and creative sectors. The Content Production for Digital Platforms module encourages students to develop their digital communication and multimedia production skills by creating and optimising content for broadcast, online and social media platforms while exploring user experience, design principles and creative innovation. Through the Global Communications module, students examine the relationship between representation, audiences, communication and culture, investigating ideology, media bias, digital identities and the interactions between content creators and consumers while considering the social, political and economic impact of digital communication in contemporary society. The Connected Practitioner module strengthens creative research and critical thinking skills, enabling students to engage with current debates and issues affecting the creative industries through seminars, discussions and collaborative learning experiences with students from diverse disciplines. User Experience for Digital Platforms focuses on designing engaging digital products and interactive media for specific audiences, teaching students how to create prototypes, develop launch strategies and apply professional methods and techniques to improve user engagement and digital experiences. The Masters Project provides an opportunity for students to undertake an in-depth independent project aligned with their career ambitions in commercial, creative, industrial or research settings. Students can create original artefacts, exhibitions, campaigns, publications or digital works that showcase their creativity, technical expertise and professional identity. The Advanced Practice module further enhances employability by providing opportunities to work on real-world business challenges and industry projects that align with individual career goals. Through reflective practice, critical thinking and practical problem-solving, students strengthen their professional skills, industry knowledge and workplace behaviours while gaining valuable experience that supports future career progression in digital media and communications industries.
