COURSE CURRICULUM

This course provides advanced education and professional training in visual effects, preparing students for careers in film, television, animation, games, and digital media industries. The curriculum develops both creative and technical expertise across the visual effects production pipeline while encouraging students to refine their own specialist interests and artistic direction. The Digital Compositing module develops the skills required to integrate multiple visual elements into seamless final images and shots using professional compositing techniques and software. Digital Matte Painting focuses on creating realistic environments, landscapes, and backgrounds that support storytelling and production design in modern visual effects work. Motion Design introduces the principles of animation, graphics, and visual communication, enabling students to create engaging and dynamic motion-based content. Through Physical Simulation, students gain experience producing realistic visual effects such as fire, smoke, water, explosions, destruction, and particle systems commonly used in contemporary productions. Industry Research and Development encourages exploration of emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovative workflows while strengthening critical thinking and professional awareness. Collaborative practice forms a major part of the programme, with both the Group Project and AVFX Group Project allowing students to work in multidisciplinary teams on industry-style briefs and short film productions that closely replicate professional studio environments and production pipelines. Students undertaking the Advanced Practice route also complete an Internship, gaining valuable workplace experience, professional contacts, and practical insight into industry expectations and workflows. Supported by dedicated visual effects studios equipped with industry-standard software, as well as specialist facilities including motion capture studios, green screen technology, motion-control cameras, and professional camera and grip equipment, students graduate with a strong portfolio and extensive practical experience.
