COURSE CURRICULUM
The Interior Design programme provides students with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in creating innovative, sustainable, and people-centred interior environments through a combination of creative practice, research, and professional development. The Design in Context: Building for People and Society module introduces students to the social, cultural, and economic factors that influence contemporary design and the built environment, exploring themes such as home, work, community, wellbeing, and place while examining the impact of changing demographics, government policies, sustainability, and technological innovation on interior spaces. Students learn to connect theoretical understanding with practical design solutions through project work that addresses real-world challenges. Emerging Spatial Trends: Wellbeing and Sustainability focuses on the relationship between interior design, health, and environmental responsibility, encouraging students to explore how materials, biophilic design principles, and sustainable approaches can enhance physical and mental wellbeing in residential and commercial environments. The Final Design Project enables students to lead and manage a large-scale and innovative interior design project, demonstrating advanced research, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills while developing solutions to complex spatial and practical challenges. Future Technologies introduces students to emerging digital tools, software, and design methodologies used within contemporary interior and architectural practice, including building information modelling and collaborative design processes that support sustainability and improved building performance. Interior Practice: Managing Design develops an understanding of the wider professional responsibilities of interior designers, including project management, contracts, specifications, regulations, health and safety requirements, and business operations within the construction and design industries. Students also explore the collaborative relationships between designers and other professionals involved in the built environment sector. Together, these modules equip graduates with the creative abilities, technical knowledge, professional awareness, and leadership skills required for successful careers in interior design, spatial design, consultancy, project management, and the wider built environment and creative industries.
