COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Game Design programme develops advanced knowledge and practical skills in game design, gameplay systems, project management, and prototype development for modern games production. Students explore Advanced Game Mechanics, focusing on creating engaging gameplay experiences, designing innovative mechanics, and developing game concepts into playable proofs of concept. Advanced Mission Design builds expertise in level design and mission creation, where students design immersive gameplay scenarios and implement them within professional game engines and level editing tools. The Game Design Optimisation module focuses on improving gameplay performance, polishing game systems, enhancing player experience, and adapting games for different platforms while meeting technical and quality standards. Through the Game Group Project, students collaborate in teams to design and develop a fully playable game prototype using contemporary development tools and workflows. Games Management introduces industry-standard project management methods, budgeting, scheduling, team leadership, and production planning using tools such as Microsoft Project, Trello, ShotGrid, and Basecamp. Rational Game Design develops an understanding of core gameplay mechanics, player engagement, accessibility, playtesting, and iterative design processes used in professional game development. The programme concludes with a substantial Master's Project, where students independently research, design, and develop a major games-related artefact supported by a reflective report and professional presentation. Graduates leave with strong creative, technical, analytical, and management skills suitable for careers across the games industry.
