COURSE CURRICULUM

The Filmmaking master's programme offers an intensive and industry-focused learning experience that develops advanced creative, technical and professional skills across all stages of film production. Through the Advanced Sound and Vision module, students explore the collaborative nature of filmmaking while developing expertise in visual storytelling, sound design, editing and production design. Practical workshops in directing, producing, camera operation, lighting, sound recording and editing across documentary and fiction filmmaking provide valuable hands-on experience and build confidence in working within modern digital production environments. The Production module takes students through the entire filmmaking journey, from initial concept development to the completion of a professional-standard short film. Students gain experience in project management, budgeting, scheduling, casting and directing actors while learning advanced techniques to overcome creative and logistical production challenges. Project Research and Development encourages students to investigate the creative and theoretical aspects of filmmaking, using research methods and critical analysis to develop innovative ideas and original concepts for moving image projects. This module supports experimentation and helps students establish their own creative identity and filmmaking voice. The Connected Practitioner module strengthens research skills, critical thinking and professional awareness by introducing students to current debates, policies and practices within the creative industries. Through seminars, studio sessions and collaborative learning, students engage with a wider postgraduate community and gain valuable interdisciplinary perspectives. The Masters Project represents the culmination of the programme and allows students to undertake a substantial independent project aligned with their professional ambitions and creative interests. Students have the opportunity to produce original films, exhibitions, publications, campaigns or digital works that showcase their technical abilities, creative vision and professional readiness. By integrating practical skills with research and critical engagement, the programme prepares graduates for successful careers across film, television and digital media industries.
