COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Education programme is designed to develop advanced knowledge, professional practice skills and research expertise for those working in or aspiring to work in education and related fields. The Combining Professional and Academic Practice module explores the role of professionalism in education and encourages you to analyse educational issues relevant to your own experience or career goals, applying contemporary theories and research to improve educational practice. Through the Contextualising Education module, you examine current educational debates and policies while exploring how local, national and international developments influence educational systems and professional practice. The Educational Research: Practice and Planning module provides an in-depth understanding of educational research methods and prepares you to design and conduct an independent research project by developing skills in research design, methodology and data collection. In the Using the Literature to Inform Educational Research module, you learn how to conduct literature searches, critically analyse academic sources, identify research gaps and develop a strong evidence base for future research projects. The MA Education Dissertation is the culmination of the programme, allowing you to work closely with an academic supervisor to complete an independent research study focused on an area of professional educational practice that aligns with your interests and career aspirations. Throughout the course, you develop expertise in critical thinking, reflective practice, educational research and evidence-based decision making, preparing you for career progression in teaching, educational leadership, training, policy development, academic research and further doctoral study in education or related disciplines.
