COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Education programme is designed to develop advanced knowledge, professional expertise and research skills for individuals interested in educational practice, leadership and policy. The Combining Professional and Academic Practice module explores the concept of professionalism in education and encourages you to apply contemporary educational theory and research to issues relevant to your own professional interests, helping you identify ways to improve educational practice. Through the Contextualising Education module, you examine current educational debates and policies while exploring the wider national and international contexts that shape education systems and influence teaching and learning practices. The Educational Research: Practice and Planning module provides a detailed understanding of educational research methodologies and prepares you to design and conduct an independent research study by developing skills in research design, data collection, analysis and ethical considerations. The Using the Literature to Inform Educational Research module develops your ability to conduct literature searches, critically evaluate existing research, identify gaps in knowledge and create a strong evidence base for your own research project. The MA Education Dissertation represents the culmination of the programme and allows you to work closely with an academic supervisor to undertake an independent investigation into an area of professional educational practice that aligns with your interests and career aspirations. Throughout the course, you develop advanced critical thinking, reflective practice, research and communication skills that prepare you for careers in teaching, educational leadership, policy development, educational support services, training, research and further doctoral study in education or related disciplines.
