COURSE CURRICULUM
This Digital Media and Communications master's programme combines creativity, research and practical industry skills to prepare graduates for careers in the rapidly evolving digital communications sector. The course begins with Content Production for Digital Platforms, a student-led module that encourages creative experimentation and innovation through the production of multimedia content for broadcast, online and social media platforms. Students learn how to create, optimise and distribute engaging content while developing an understanding of user experience and digital design principles. The Global Communications module examines digital media from social, cultural, political and economic perspectives, exploring themes such as representation, ideology, bias, communication cultures and audience behaviour. Students critically analyse the relationship between mainstream and independent media and investigate how digital communication shapes societies and influences public opinion. Through The Connected Practitioner module, students strengthen their creative research skills and critical thinking abilities while engaging with current debates and issues affecting the arts and creative industries. Collaborative learning opportunities, seminars and studio sessions encourage the exchange of ideas across different creative disciplines and support the development of professional research practices. The User Experience for Digital Platforms module focuses on content design, interactive media and audience engagement, teaching students how to create digital products tailored to specific users and platforms. Students develop prototypes, design digital launch strategies and explore enterprise opportunities while learning methods and techniques used in professional digital media production. The Masters Project acts as the culmination of the programme, allowing students to undertake an independent and substantial piece of work aligned with their career ambitions in commercial, industrial, creative or research settings. This final project enables students to produce original artefacts, campaigns, exhibitions, publications or digital works that demonstrate their creativity, technical expertise and professional identity as digital practitioners.
