COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed to prepare aspiring concept artists for careers in the film, television, games, animation, and comic industries by developing advanced creative, technical, and professional skills in visual development and design. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of concept art within modern production pipelines and learn how visual ideas are developed and communicated in professional creative environments. The Character Design module focuses on creating original and believable characters, exploring anatomy, costume, personality, and visual identity, while Environment Design develops the skills needed to design immersive worlds, locations, and settings for entertainment media. Through Drawing for Concept Artists, students strengthen their traditional artistic foundations, including observation, perspective, composition, and anatomy, which underpin effective digital and traditional concept art practice. The Concept Art Practice module allows students to apply these skills to professional workflows and industry-style projects, encouraging experimentation with different artistic styles, techniques, and production methods. Visual Storytelling explores narrative communication through imagery, helping students create compelling stories, moods, and experiences through their designs. Practice-based Research for the Visual Artist develops critical thinking and research skills, enabling students to investigate creative processes, artistic influences, and contemporary industry trends to inform their work. The programme culminates in the Master's Project: Concept Art, where students produce a substantial portfolio-quality body of work that demonstrates their technical expertise, creative vision, and professional readiness. Supported by experienced staff with significant industry backgrounds and access to industry-standard facilities and software, graduates leave with a strong portfolio and the skills required to pursue careers as concept artists, visual development artists, and designers within the global creative industries.
