COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed for aspiring concept artists seeking careers in the film, television, games, animation, and comic industries, combining artistic creativity with industry-focused professional development. Students develop advanced visual development skills and gain an understanding of the important role concept art plays throughout modern production pipelines, particularly within the rapidly expanding games and entertainment sectors. The Character Design module focuses on creating believable and visually engaging characters by exploring anatomy, costume design, personality, and visual identity, while Environment Design develops the ability to create immersive worlds, locations, and settings that support storytelling and gameplay experiences. Through Drawing for Concept Artists, students strengthen traditional artistic foundations such as perspective, anatomy, composition, and observational drawing, which support both digital and traditional workflows. The Concept Art Practice module allows students to apply their creative and technical skills to industry-style projects while experimenting with different artistic styles and production methods. Visual Storytelling develops the ability to communicate narrative, emotion, and atmosphere through imagery, helping students create compelling visual experiences for audiences. Practice-based Research for the Visual Artist encourages critical investigation into creative processes, contemporary trends, and artistic influences to inform professional practice and project development. The programme culminates in the Master's Project: Concept Art, where students create a substantial portfolio-quality body of work that demonstrates their artistic vision, technical ability, and professional readiness. Students choosing the Advanced Practice route also complete an Internship, providing valuable industry experience and professional networking opportunities while applying their learning within a real workplace environment.
