COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed for aspiring character animators seeking careers in the film, television, visual effects, and games industries, combining creative development with advanced technical and professional training. Drawing on the expertise of staff with extensive industry experience, the programme focuses on developing the specialist skills required to create believable and engaging animated performances. Through the Body Mechanics module, students gain a strong understanding of movement, weight, balance, and physical performance, while Character Performance develops acting, storytelling, emotion, and facial expression skills to create convincing and expressive characters. The Creatures module expands these abilities by introducing techniques for animating animals, fantasy creatures, and non-human characters commonly found in films and games productions. Students also explore modern animation technologies through The Art of Performance Capture, gaining practical experience with industry-standard motion capture systems and learning how performance capture integrates into contemporary production pipelines. Industry Research and Development encourages students to investigate emerging technologies, trends, and innovations within animation and visual effects while strengthening their professional awareness and critical thinking skills. The AVFX Group Project provides valuable collaborative experience through multidisciplinary team projects that mirror professional studio workflows and production environments. Students benefit from access to dedicated animation studios, performance capture facilities, a fully equipped sound stage, green screen technology, an LED wall, and industry-standard software, ensuring they graduate with practical experience and a professional portfolio. The Advanced Practice route includes an Internship, offering the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience, develop professional networks, and apply classroom learning within a real workplace setting.
