COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc 3D Games Art course develops advanced artistic, technical, and production skills required for careers in the games industry. Students learn to create high-quality, game-ready assets while understanding the technical constraints and performance requirements of modern gaming platforms including PC, consoles, and mobile devices. Core modules include 3D Optimisation, where students focus on efficient asset creation, topology, texture management, UV mapping, and shader optimisation. Modelling and Sculpting develops advanced hard-surface and organic modelling skills using professional digital sculpting software, while Material Creation explores procedural workflows and advanced material generation techniques for real-time game environments. Lighting and Rendering teaches students how to create visually appealing and technically efficient real-time environments, developing expertise in lighting, art direction, and asset presentation. Through the Game Group Project, students work collaboratively to design and develop a playable game prototype using contemporary game engines and industry workflows. The Industry Research and Development module encourages innovation and experimentation through research-led projects and proof-of-concept development relevant to games, animation, and visual effects industries. The course culminates in a Master's Project, where students undertake an extensive independent research and production project, creating a professional portfolio piece alongside a critical written evaluation. Graduates are prepared for careers as 3D game artists, environment artists, technical artists, asset creators, and other specialist roles within the games and interactive entertainment industries.
