COURSE CURRICULUM

This course is designed for creative individuals who want to write, design, animate, and produce their own short animated film, taking it from the initial concept stage through to a professional, festival-ready final product. The programme combines creative storytelling, animation theory, and practical production skills to provide a complete understanding of the animation filmmaking process. Students begin by exploring the Anatomy of a Film module, which examines the structure, language, and production stages of animation while developing an understanding of cinematic storytelling techniques. Through the Script and Pitch module, students learn how to create compelling narratives and professionally present their ideas to industry professionals and funding bodies. Production Design develops visual storytelling skills, including character creation, environments, and visual development, while Creative Animation allows students to experiment with techniques and establish their own artistic style and creative identity. The Industry Practice module provides valuable insight into professional workflows, production management, and current trends within the animation sector, helping students understand the expectations of employers and studios worldwide. During the production phase of the course, students work within specialist facilities and dedicated studio spaces using either 2D animation or stop-motion techniques while developing skills in directing, sound design, editing, and performance. The Final Film module brings together all the knowledge and practical experience gained throughout the programme, enabling students to complete a polished short film suitable for international festival submissions and professional portfolios. Supported by experienced academics and technical specialists, students graduate with strong creative, technical, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in animation studios, film production companies, independent filmmaking, and other areas of the creative industries.
