COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM Law programme with Applied Practice provides students with advanced legal knowledge while combining academic study with practical workplace experience. The course develops a critical understanding of contemporary legal issues, human rights, criminal law, legal research methods and the application of law in professional environments. Through the Advanced Issues in Law (Domestic and Global) module, students explore current legal debates and emerging challenges affecting legal systems at national and international levels. This module encourages students to analyse complex legal issues, evaluate different perspectives and develop specialist areas of interest for further research. The Applied Practice (Law) module enhances employability by allowing students to gain practical workplace experience, apply their legal knowledge to real-world situations and complete a work-related project supported by the course team. Students develop professional skills through reflection, practical learning and engagement with legal practice. The Human Rights in Criminal Law and Criminal Evidence module provides an advanced understanding of criminal justice, evidence and the relationship between legal processes and human rights. Students critically examine challenges faced by judges, legislators and legal professionals when addressing issues of justice, fairness and individual rights. The Law, Rights and Society module explores legal reasoning, the role of law within society and the importance of human rights in shaping social and legal structures. The Legal Research for Postgraduate Writing module develops advanced research, academic writing and analytical skills, enabling students to communicate complex legal arguments effectively at postgraduate level. The programme concludes with the LLM Dissertation (Human Rights), where students undertake independent research into a specific human rights topic and demonstrate their ability to apply legal knowledge and research skills. This course prepares graduates for careers in legal practice, human rights organisations, government, policy development, compliance, consultancy and other professional sectors requiring advanced legal expertise and practical experience.
