COURSE CURRICULUM

This legal practice programme is designed to provide students with the advanced knowledge, practical skills and professional preparation required for a successful career as a solicitor. The course combines academic learning with hands-on legal experience, focusing on the application of legal principles in real-world professional settings. The Extended Research Project allows students to apply the knowledge and research skills developed throughout the programme to a specific area of legal interest. Students complete a 15,000-word research project on an approved topic, developing advanced legal research, critical analysis and academic writing skills with guidance from an experienced supervisor. A major feature of the programme is the Law Clinic module, where students gain practical experience by providing pro bono legal advice to members of the local community. Working under the supervision of a qualified solicitor, students handle live client cases involving areas such as family law, employment law and civil disputes, helping them develop essential professional competencies including client communication, legal analysis, case management and ethical decision-making. The SQE 2 Preparation module is aligned with the Solicitors Regulation Authority requirements and prepares students for practical legal skills needed by newly qualified solicitors, including client interviewing, advocacy, legal research, writing, drafting and case analysis. The SQE Preparation 1 modules focus on developing functioning legal knowledge required for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, covering areas such as business law and practice, legal services, dispute resolution, property practice, wills, estate administration, solicitors’ accounts and criminal practice. By combining SQE preparation, supervised practical experience and independent legal research, this programme equips graduates with the professional skills, confidence and knowledge required to progress towards qualification as solicitors and succeed in modern legal practice.
