COURSE CURRICULUM
The LLM Law programme provides students with advanced knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary legal issues, human rights, criminal law and legal research methods. The course is designed to develop specialist legal expertise, independent research abilities and analytical skills required for postgraduate study and professional legal careers. Through the Advanced Issues in Law (Domestic and Global) module, students explore current legal challenges at national and international levels, examining modern legal debates and developing their own areas of interest for further investigation. The Human Rights in Criminal Law and Criminal Evidence module enables students to gain a detailed understanding of criminal justice systems, legal evidence and the complex relationship between human rights and criminal law. Students critically analyse the challenges faced by courts, lawmakers and legal professionals when balancing individual rights, public safety and justice. The Law, Rights and Society module explores the fundamental concepts of legal reasoning and the relationship between law and society. Students examine how legal principles develop, how rights are protected and how human rights influence social, political and legal structures. The Legal Research for Postgraduate Writing module enhances students’ ability to conduct advanced legal research, evaluate academic sources, construct effective arguments and communicate complex legal ideas at postgraduate level. The programme culminates in the LLM Dissertation (Human Rights), where students undertake an independent research project focusing on a specific human rights issue, applying their legal knowledge and research skills to produce a detailed academic study. This programme prepares graduates for careers in legal practice, human rights advocacy, policy development, government services, research, compliance and other professional areas requiring advanced legal knowledge, critical thinking, research expertise and the ability to analyse complex legal challenges in domestic and global contexts.
