COURSE CURRICULUM

This law degree is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in legal principles while developing the practical, analytical and professional skills required for success in legal and related professions. In the first year, students study core areas of law including administrative law, civil liberties and human rights, constitutional law, criminal law, the English legal system, contract law and tort law, building a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework that underpins the justice system in the United Kingdom and beyond. During the second year, students deepen their legal knowledge through the study of European Union law, land law, and equity and trusts, while completing an independent dissertation that allows them to explore a legal topic of personal interest in greater depth and develop advanced research skills. Students also have the opportunity to tailor their studies through optional modules such as Law Clinic, medical law, welfare and immigration law, and the law of civil and criminal evidence. Teaching is delivered through a range of interactive methods including lectures, workshops, seminars, computer laboratory sessions and group activities that encourage active participation and collaborative learning. Students engage in debates on contemporary legal issues, problem-based exercises, reflective activities and independent research projects that strengthen their ability to analyse complex information and construct persuasive legal arguments. Practical experience is further enhanced through participation in the university's award-winning Law Clinic, where students can develop valuable professional skills while working on real legal issues. Assessment methods are varied and include examinations, essays, presentations, mooting exercises, poster presentations, problem-solving tasks, reflective portfolios and the final dissertation. The programme also provides an inclusive learning environment with specialist support services available to ensure all students can fully engage with their studies and achieve their potential.
