COURSE CURRICULUM

The Software Engineering course provides students with the knowledge and practical skills required to design, develop, test, and maintain modern software systems while preparing them for careers in the rapidly evolving technology industry. In the first year, students build a strong foundation by studying Algorithmic Problem Solving, Object Oriented Programming, Secure Computers and Networks, and Systems Design and Databases, developing core competencies in programming, software design, cybersecurity, and database systems. During the second year, students expand their expertise through Software Engineering, Relational and NoSQL Databases, and Web Apps and Services, gaining experience in software development methodologies, modern database technologies, and web application design while completing an Enterprise Project that enhances teamwork, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills through practical software development challenges. Students also have the opportunity to undertake an optional work placement year, enabling them to gain valuable industry experience, strengthen their professional abilities, and apply classroom learning in a real-world environment. In the final year, the programme explores advanced topics through CloudNative DevOps, where students learn cloud computing, software deployment, automation, and continuous integration practices, alongside High Integrity Systems, which focuses on designing reliable, secure, and safety-critical software. Students also complete an independent Computing Project, demonstrating their ability to research, design, develop, implement, and evaluate a substantial software engineering solution. Throughout the course, students progressively develop expertise in programming, software engineering, cloud technologies, databases, cybersecurity, DevOps, and web development while enhancing their analytical, technical, and professional skills. The combination of academic knowledge, practical laboratory experience, industry-focused projects, and optional workplace learning equips graduates with the capabilities required for careers in software engineering, software development, cloud computing, DevOps engineering, systems architecture, application development, and other technology-related professions.
