COURSE CURRICULUM

The Paramedic Practice course is structured over three years and is designed to progressively develop students' clinical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required for modern paramedic practice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in evidence-based healthcare, human physiology, professionalism, and the principles of paramedic care while beginning to develop their clinical skills through practice competencies and portfolio work. The second year expands students' understanding of pathophysiology and pharmacology relevant to paramedic practice, while advancing their clinical decision-making abilities and practical experience through further placements and competency development. Students also begin planning and preparing for their research dissertation during this stage. In the final year, students focus on advanced paramedic care, leadership development, and service improvement skills that prepare them for autonomous professional practice and future leadership roles within healthcare services. They also complete an independent dissertation project to strengthen their research, analytical, and evidence-based practice skills. Throughout the programme, academic learning is integrated with extensive practice placements and portfolio development across all three years, enabling students to apply theory within real clinical environments and gain experience in caring for patients across all age groups and healthcare needs. The course prepares graduates to become competent, confident, and autonomous paramedics capable of delivering high-quality care in emergency, urgent, and community healthcare settings.
