COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Therapy course is structured over three years and is designed to progressively develop students' knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required for contemporary occupational therapy practice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in evidence-based healthcare, professionalism, health across the lifespan, and the role of occupation in promoting wellbeing. Students also begin developing practical experience through their first placement and learn how to support independence and inclusivity for individuals and communities. The second year focuses on advancing core occupational therapy skills, strengthening students' ability to advocate for clients through the occupational voice, and introducing innovative areas of practice including entrepreneurship and private practice opportunities. Students also begin planning their research dissertation during this stage of the programme. In the final year, the curriculum emphasises leadership development, service improvement, community engagement, and lifelong professional learning while students complete an independent dissertation project to enhance their research and analytical skills. Throughout the programme, academic study is combined with practical placements and hands-on learning experiences to prepare graduates for professional practice in a variety of healthcare, social care, community, education, and private sector settings. The course develops compassionate, reflective, and future-ready occupational therapists capable of supporting individuals and communities to improve health, wellbeing, independence, and participation in everyday life.
