COURSE CURRICULUM

The Child Nursing course is structured over three years and is designed to progressively develop students' knowledge, clinical skills, and professional competencies required for specialist children's nursing practice. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in nursing fundamentals, evidence-based decision-making, communication, professionalism, and understanding health and illness across a range of healthcare settings. The second year introduces more specialised children's nursing content, focusing on clinical interventions, advanced decision-making, service improvement, and the delivery of care to infants, children, young people, and their families. During the final year, students further develop their expertise in children's nursing interventions and evidence-based practice while gaining greater independence and professional responsibility within clinical environments. Students also complete a dissertation project to strengthen their research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities. Throughout the programme, academic learning is integrated with extensive clinical placements, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in real healthcare settings and develop the skills required for professional practice. The course prepares graduates to become compassionate, competent, and confident children's nurses who can respond effectively to the physical, emotional, mental health, and developmental needs of children and young people.
