COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cybersecurity course is structured to develop students' knowledge and practical skills in protecting computer systems, networks, and digital information from cyber threats. In the first year, students establish a strong technical foundation by studying Campus Network Design and Security, Programming for Cyber Security, Secure Computers and Networks, and Systems Design and Databases, gaining essential knowledge in network architecture, secure programming, cybersecurity principles, and database systems. During the second year, the curriculum advances into specialised cybersecurity topics through modules such as Data Centre Network Infrastructure, Ethical Hacking, and IT Systems and Information Security, where students learn to design secure enterprise networks, identify and assess system vulnerabilities, perform ethical hacking techniques, and implement effective information security measures. Students also complete an Enterprise Project, developing teamwork, project management, and practical problem-solving skills by working on real-world industry challenges. An optional work placement year provides valuable professional experience, enabling students to apply their technical knowledge in a workplace environment while enhancing their employability. In the final year, students undertake an independent Computing Project, demonstrating their ability to research, design, and implement a substantial cybersecurity solution. They also study Security Analysis, focusing on identifying, assessing, and responding to cyber threats, alongside Service Management and Information Governance, which explores IT service management, data governance, regulatory compliance, and organisational security practices. Throughout the programme, students progressively build expertise in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, secure programming, enterprise networking, information security, risk management, and governance while strengthening their analytical, technical, and professional skills. The combination of theoretical knowledge, practical laboratory experience, industry-focused projects, and optional work placement prepares graduates for careers in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, network security, security operations, digital risk management, information governance, and a wide range of roles within the rapidly evolving technology sector.
