COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering course is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, construction techniques, and infrastructure design while developing the practical and analytical skills required for professional engineering careers. In the first year, students establish a strong engineering foundation through modules including Engineering Mathematics, Group Project – Feasibility Stage, Introduction to Geotechnics and Surveying, Materials and Sustainability, Principles of Civil Engineering Construction, and Structural Mechanics. These modules introduce essential concepts in mathematics, soil mechanics, land surveying, sustainable construction materials, structural behaviour, and the planning and feasibility of civil engineering projects. During the second year, students build on this knowledge by studying Applied Mathematical Methods, Construction Management and Professional Skills, Geotechnology and Materials, Hydraulics and Hydrology, and Structural Analysis and Design, while participating in a Group Project – Conceptual Design Stage that develops teamwork, project planning, and engineering design skills. These modules provide expertise in managing construction projects, analysing structures, understanding ground engineering, and designing infrastructure for water systems and built environments. Students also have the opportunity to undertake an optional work placement year, enabling them to gain valuable industry experience, apply their technical knowledge in a professional environment, and enhance their employability. In the final year, the programme focuses on advanced civil engineering topics through Digital Information Management in Construction, Geotechnical Design, Structural Design and Materials, and Water Engineering, where students explore digital construction technologies, advanced foundation and soil design, structural engineering, sustainable materials, and water resource engineering. Students also complete an independent Project that demonstrates their ability to research, design, analyse, and evaluate a substantial civil engineering solution while developing project management and professional engineering skills. Throughout the programme, students progressively develop expertise in structural engineering, geotechnics, construction management, surveying, hydraulics, hydrology, sustainable construction, digital engineering, and infrastructure design while strengthening their analytical, technical, communication, and problem-solving abilities. This combination of academic knowledge, practical learning, industry-focused projects, and optional workplace experience prepares graduates for careers in civil engineering, construction, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, water engineering, infrastructure development, and a wide range of engineering-related professions.
