COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work course is structured over three years and is designed to progressively develop students' knowledge, practical skills, and professional competencies required for contemporary social work practice. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in communication, social policy, law, human development across the lifespan, and the fundamental principles of social work practice. The second year builds on this knowledge by focusing on work with adults, children, and families while introducing research methods and the first professional practice placement, where students begin applying their learning within real social work environments. During the final year, students undertake a second practice placement with increased responsibility and autonomy, complete an independent project, and deepen their understanding of social work theory, ethics, and professional values. Throughout the programme, academic learning is closely integrated with practical experience, enabling students to develop the skills required to work effectively with individuals, families, and communities experiencing a range of social challenges. The course emphasises communication, safeguarding, ethical practice, critical thinking, and reflective learning to prepare graduates for professional social work roles across health, social care, local government, and community settings.
