COURSE CURRICULUM

The Politics and International Relations course is structured over three years and is designed to progressively develop students' understanding of political systems, international affairs, historical events, and contemporary global challenges. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in political theory, political ideologies, international relations, and modern political history through the study of Britain, Europe, and the United States from significant historical events to present-day politics. The second year broadens students' perspectives by exploring political communication, propaganda, revolutionary movements, global threats, and research and career development within the humanities. These modules encourage students to analyse complex international issues and understand the social, cultural, and political forces shaping the modern world. During the final year, students engage with advanced topics including parliamentary politics, state institutions, conflict resolution, and major historical events such as the rise of Nazi Germany and the conflict in Northern Ireland. Students also complete an independent dissertation project that develops their research, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Throughout the programme, students strengthen their abilities in communication, debate, problem-solving, and evidence-based analysis, preparing them for careers in politics, public administration, international organisations, journalism, education, and a range of other professional sectors.
