BA (Hons) Games Design at Teesside University prepares students for careers in the fast-growing global games industry by combining creativity, technical expertise and professional practice. Throughout the degree, students learn how to transform creative ideas into engaging games by studying game mechanics, level design, storytelling, user experience and game engine technologies. In the first year, modules such as Game Creation, Game Design and Mechanics, Game Prototyping and Industry Briefs build essential skills in designing and developing games. During the second year, students explore Games Business, Marketing and Publishing, Mission Design, UI and UX Design and the Journeyman module, which develops professional and collaborative abilities. An optional work placement year allows students to gain valuable industry experience and improve their employability. In the final year, students complete advanced modules including Beta Arcade, Games Project and Narrative Design and Integration, where they create professional-quality games and develop an impressive portfolio. Students also benefit from Teesside's strong industry connections through Animex, the university's internationally recognised animation and games festival, featuring professionals from companies such as Rockstar, Pixar, Disney and Sony. Opportunities to participate in GameJam events, industry competitions and beta testing of upcoming games provide valuable real-world experience. Through ExpoSeries, students can showcase their work directly to employers and industry professionals.
