COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Television Production degree is designed to develop the creative, technical and professional skills required for careers in the screen and media industries. During the first year, students build a strong foundation in filmmaking and television production through modules such as Collaboration Project, Introduction to Film and Television Production: Key Craft Principles and Skills, Introduction to the Creative Industries and Screen Cultures: Visual Methods and Critical Responses. These modules introduce students to essential production techniques, storytelling methods, visual analysis and the structure of the creative industries while encouraging teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. In the second year, students advance their practical and creative abilities through modules including Advanced Storytelling and Production Specialisms: From Script to Screen, Creative Research Project, Industry Project and Working in the Creative Industries. Students develop expertise in transforming ideas into professional productions, undertake research projects, work on industry-focused assignments and gain a deeper understanding of employment opportunities and professional practice within the creative sector. An optional work placement year provides valuable opportunities to gain experience in professional media environments, build industry contacts and enhance employability through practical workplace learning. In the final year, students complete a Major Project, which allows them to specialise in an area of film or television production that matches their interests and career goals while creating a substantial portfolio piece that demonstrates their technical, creative and research skills. The Professional Practice module supports students in preparing for graduate employment by developing skills in project management, networking, portfolio presentation and professional communication. Throughout the programme, students combine theoretical understanding with extensive practical experience, preparing them for careers in film production, television broadcasting, editing, content creation, directing, producing and other roles within the rapidly growing creative industries.
