COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business and Accounting programme at Teesside University provides a balanced education in business management and accounting, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and professional skills. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation through modules in Accounting Principles and Systems, Organisational Performance and Strategy, Quantitative Data and Decision-Making, and The Future of Work. These modules introduce financial accounting, business operations, organisational behaviour, leadership, data analysis, digital literacy, and the impact of emerging technologies on workplaces and business models. During the second year, students enhance their professional expertise through Financial Reporting, Management Accounting, Operating Globally, and The Future of You, gaining knowledge of international financial reporting standards, management accounting techniques, global business environments, sustainability, cultural awareness, personal development, and career planning. Students also have the opportunity to undertake an optional work placement year, allowing them to gain valuable industry experience, develop technical and transferable skills, improve employability, and build professional networks. In the final year, students study Advanced Financial Reporting, Audit and Assurance, and Reimagining the Future of Business and Society, focusing on complex financial reporting standards, auditing practices, global sustainability challenges, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. To complete the degree, students choose between a Consultancy Project, where they work on live projects with external clients, or an Independent Project involving individual research into a business-related issue or practical problem. Throughout the programme, students develop analytical, leadership, communication, problem-solving, and digital skills while gaining a strong understanding of accounting, finance, and business management. The course prepares graduates for careers in accounting, financial services, management, consultancy, and related business sectors, equipping them with the knowledge and adaptability needed to succeed in a rapidly changing global economy.
