COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of psychological principles as they apply to sports performance, physical activity, and wellbeing. Core modules such as Psychology of Exercise and Physical Activity examine the factors that influence motivation, adherence, and engagement in physical activity, equipping students to promote positive behavioural change. Psychology of Learning, Wellbeing and Sport Performance focuses on the cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of performance, helping students understand how psychological processes affect athletes and individuals in various sporting and exercise contexts, with assessments combining coursework and practical application. Developing Professional Skills in Sport and Exercise Psychology enhances students’ consultancy, communication, and ethical practice skills, ensuring they are prepared to operate effectively in professional settings. Research Methods in Sport and Physical Activity introduces both theoretical and practical research techniques, enabling students to design, conduct, and analyse studies that inform evidence-based practice. The Applied Project in Sport and Physical Activity allows students to integrate their learning through a substantial, hands-on project, applying psychological theories and research methods to real-world challenges within sport or exercise environments. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and practical skills, preparing them for careers in sport psychology, exercise consultancy, elite or community sport, health and wellbeing, and further postgraduate study, while also gaining the competencies necessary for professional accreditation and practice.
