COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Molecular Microbiology program provides students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to explore the molecular, physiological, and applied aspects of microorganisms in industrial, commercial, and medical contexts. Core modules such as Advanced Laboratory and Research Practice and Applied Laboratory Practice focus on developing technical expertise, experimental design, and research skills, enabling students to conduct rigorous laboratory investigations and generate reliable data. Microbial Biotechnology examines the application of microorganisms in industrial processes, including the development of pharmaceuticals, enzymes, and bioproducts, while Microbial Physiology and Pathogenesis explores microbial function, metabolism, and disease mechanisms, combining theoretical knowledge with assessment through coursework and examinations. The Research Project allows students to undertake an independent, in-depth investigation, applying both practical and analytical skills to solve complex microbiological problems and contribute to scientific understanding. Elective modules, including Case Studies in Infectious Disease and Data Science, provide opportunities to specialise further, analyse real-world challenges, and integrate data-driven approaches into research and practice. Throughout the program, students engage with experimental techniques, literature review, and critical analysis, fostering problem-solving, analytical thinking, and scientific communication skills.
