COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Health Psychology program equips students with the knowledge and skills to understand, assess, and influence the psychological factors affecting health and illness. Core modules such as Adjustment to Long-Term Conditions and Bereavement focus on the psychological responses to chronic illness and loss, while Psychology of Illness and Disease examines the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural aspects of health and disease. Understanding Behaviour and Behaviour Change Interventions develops students’ ability to design and evaluate strategies that promote positive health behaviours. Social Determinants of Health explores the broader societal and environmental factors influencing wellbeing. The program places strong emphasis on research and evidence-based practice through modules including Fundamentals in Health Psychology Research and Academic Practice, Ethical Research and Practice, Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods, and the Health Psychology Research Project, enabling students to conduct rigorous investigations and critically interpret findings. The Mini-Systematic Review module enhances students’ skills in evaluating and synthesising existing research. Critical Self-Reflection and Communication Skills develop professional competencies necessary for effective engagement with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders. Through a combination of theoretical learning, practical application, and research experience, the program prepares graduates for Stage 2 training and professional careers in health psychology, public health, research, and clinical or community-based interventions, equipping them to apply psychological expertise to improve health outcomes and wellbeing.
