COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Geographical Information Systems program provides students with advanced knowledge and practical skills to analyse, visualise, and interpret spatial data, equipping them to address complex real-world problems across environmental, urban, and business contexts. Core modules such as Advances in Geographical Information Systems and Geographical Information Systems Professional focus on developing technical expertise in GIS software, spatial analysis, and geospatial data management, ensuring students are proficient in industry-standard tools and methodologies. Monitoring Change with Geographical Information Systems explores techniques for tracking environmental and societal changes over time, enabling students to assess trends, model impacts, and inform decision-making processes. Spatial and Environmental Skills further enhance students’ abilities to apply GIS tools in environmental and geographic applications, integrating practical exercises with analytical approaches. The Independent Project allows students to undertake in-depth research, applying theoretical knowledge and technical skills to investigate specific spatial challenges, develop innovative solutions, and communicate findings effectively. Through a combination of coursework, practical exercises, and project-based learning, students gain hands-on experience in data collection, mapping, analysis, and problem-solving.
