COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Public Health program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing population health and the skills needed to develop, implement, and evaluate public health interventions. In the first year, students study a range of core modules that build foundational knowledge and practical skills, including Applied Epidemiology and Foundations of Epidemiology, which teach the principles of disease surveillance, data analysis, and interpretation. Modules such as Global Illness and Disease: Public Health Response, Health and Human Rights, Health Improvement, and Introduction to Public Health provide insight into global health challenges, policy development, and the design of effective interventions. Poverty and Health Inequalities, Public Health Research Methods, and Working Globally: Culture and Public Health equip students with the skills to critically assess social determinants of health, conduct research, and apply culturally appropriate strategies in diverse settings. In the second year, Developing as a Public Health Professional prepares students for leadership and professional practice, while the MSc Public Health Dissertation allows students to undertake independent, in-depth research, integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Throughout the program, students enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities, enabling them to evaluate evidence, design interventions, and influence policy. Graduates emerge ready for careers in public health practice, research, policy, and consultancy, equipped to address complex health challenges and improve population health outcomes globally.
