COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Social Research provides students with comprehensive training in social research methods, combining theoretical foundations with practical applications to prepare graduates for careers in research, policy, and analysis. The program covers classical and contemporary social theory, enabling students to understand the philosophical underpinnings of research and to critically evaluate social phenomena. Core modules on methodology introduce both positivist and social constructionist approaches, giving students the skills to design and conduct rigorous studies using diverse perspectives. Qualitative research modules develop capabilities in in-depth data collection and analysis, while survey methods focus on designing, implementing, and statistically analyzing survey data to produce meaningful insights. The program emphasizes applied skills through an extensive dissertation, allowing students to carry out independent research on a real-world social issue, integrating theory, methodology, and data analysis. Elective modules provide opportunities to deepen knowledge in specialized areas such as advanced qualitative research, linguistic analysis, and survey data modeling, further enhancing analytical and problem-solving abilities.
