COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Sport Coaching program is a four-year course designed to prepare students for professional careers as sports coaches, providing the knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills required to support participants across diverse settings and abilities. In the first year, students build foundational understanding through modules such as Foundations of Coaching and Teaching, Innovative Coaching Practice, The Nature and Purpose of Physical Education and Sport Coaching, and The Science of Physical Education and Sport Coaching, which develop core coaching principles, teaching methods, and scientific understanding of sport. The second year expands on this knowledge with Applied Coaching Interventions, Coaching and the Scientific Support Process, and Physical Literacy in Context, alongside a range of elective modules, enabling students to explore specialized areas including performance analysis, event management, technology in sport, and community engagement. The third year includes a sandwich placement, providing real-world coaching experience and industry exposure to develop professional competence and practical application of skills. In the fourth year, students consolidate their learning through Contemporary Issues in Sport Coaching, an Independent Project in Sport and Physical Activity, and various elective modules covering talent development, coach education, entrepreneurship, health promotion, sport psychology, performance analysis, nutrition, and media. The program emphasizes leadership, reflective practice, communication, and innovation, equipping graduates to succeed as adaptable, skilled, and professional sports coaches in schools, clubs, community programs, and elite performance environments.
