COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Quantity Surveying program is a four-year, practice-focused course designed to prepare students for professional careers in quantity surveying and commercial management within the construction industry. In the first year, students build a foundation in the principles of the built environment through modules such as Fundamentals of Buildings and Materials, Introduction to Quantification and Costing, Introduction to the Built Environment, and Sustainability, Law and Economics. This year focuses on understanding construction materials, basic cost management, and the legal, economic, and sustainability aspects of the built environment. The second year advances students’ knowledge through Applied Contractual Procedures, Construction Technology and Safety, Digital Construction, Measurement and Commercial Management, and Resilient Built Environments, integrating theoretical understanding with practical applications and digital tools for project and cost management. The third year includes a sandwich placement, providing real-world industry experience and enhancing employability. In the final year, students consolidate learning and specialize through modules such as Advanced Quantity Surveying and Climate Action Retrofit Project, Professional Practice and Contract Management, Research Methods, and a Research Project. These modules develop advanced skills in cost planning, contract administration, project management, and research, while addressing current challenges such as climate action and sustainable construction. Graduates are fully prepared for careers as quantity surveyors, cost consultants, or commercial managers, equipped with the technical knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills demanded by employers.
