COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Criminology and Psychology program provides an interdisciplinary framework for understanding crime, criminal behaviour, and psychological processes, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students explore the foundations of justice, crime, society, and human behaviour, developing essential academic, analytical, and professional skills. In the second year, the curriculum deepens with the study of serious harm and its societal impact, while offering elective opportunities such as professional practice placements, real-world applied projects, and study abroad experiences that enhance global perspectives and hands-on learning. The third year includes a sandwich placement, allowing students to gain practical industry experience, apply theoretical learning in professional settings, and develop transferable skills such as research, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making. The final year focuses on advanced topics, including contemporary security threats, applied cyberpsychology, forensic psychology, punishment and policing controversies, gender, power, and social justice, alongside specialised electives in trauma, the psychology of life course, and sex, gender, and violence. Students also undertake extensive real-world research projects, enabling them to synthesise knowledge, conduct independent investigations, and apply evidence-based solutions. Emphasising inclusivity, diversity, and social responsibility, the program equips graduates for careers in criminal justice, forensic psychology, social policy, research, and other roles that address complex societal and psychological challenges in a global context.
