COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Building Surveying program is designed to equip students with the technical expertise, professional skills, and environmental awareness needed for a career in the building surveying sector. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Fundamentals of Buildings and Materials, Introduction to the Built Environment, Practical Surveying Skills, and Sustainability, Law and Economics, combining coursework and practical experience to develop essential knowledge of construction principles, environmental considerations, and surveying techniques. In the second year, students deepen their understanding through advanced modules including Construction Technology and Safety, Contract Administration, Property Inspection and Remediation, and Resilient Built Environments, enabling them to assess, manage, and improve building performance while addressing safety, sustainability, and regulatory requirements. The third year offers a professional sandwich placement, providing hands-on experience in real-world building surveying contexts and allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to industry practice. In the final year, students focus on advanced professional practice, completing modules such as Building Surveying Professional Practice, Heritage Conservation and Climate Action Retrofit Project, Research Methods, and a Research Project, preparing them to tackle complex challenges in refurbishment, conservation, and sustainable building management. Graduates emerge with the skills and experience to pursue careers in building surveying, consultancy, facilities management, or further study in the built environment.
