COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Honours) Biomedical Science program provides a comprehensive education in human health, disease mechanisms, and laboratory practice. In the first year, students gain a solid foundation in biomedical science, including practical laboratory skills, fundamental concepts in biochemistry, molecular biology, and professional skills essential for scientific practice. Coursework and practical assessments ensure students develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. The second year focuses on advancing applied scientific skills, covering disease, diagnostics, therapeutics, immunology, microbiology, and the molecular basis of genes and proteins, alongside further development of professional skills. This combination equips students to interpret scientific data accurately and apply it in real-world healthcare or laboratory contexts. In the third year, students undertake a sandwich placement, gaining practical experience in a professional laboratory or clinical setting, enhancing employability and professional competence. The final year includes advanced modules such as blood sciences, cellular pathology, and infection, alongside an independent research project that develops critical thinking, experimental design, and scientific communication skills. Elective modules allow exploration of specialized areas like advanced genetics, personalized medicine, human nutrition, neurobiology, pharmacology, and data science. Accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, the course prepares graduates for careers in healthcare, diagnostics, research, biotechnology, or further postgraduate study, providing both academic expertise and professional recognition.
